Need some space for your startup? Meet David Mandell, CEO & Founder of PivotDesk. He will be pitching his online marketplace for matching companies that have excess space with companies that need room to grow their business. Here is why David and his team created PivotDesk:
“I witnessed this pain and frustration over and over again during the course of founding my own businesses, and helping many inspiring startup founders over the past 10 years.  I couldn’t believe that so many talented, hopeful entrepreneurs were still dealing with this distracting bullshit every single day.
Our lives as startup entrepreneurs are, by definition, grounded in uncertainty. Â We have no idea whether our businesses will grow; how quickly they might grow if they do; where we may need to be geographically; or whom we might need to hire as the business changes.
Mentally, we’re always prepared for this dynamic (at least as prepared as we can be), however structurally, we need to work within a traditional context designed for the slower growth and predictable business models our economy used to thrive on.  That didn’t make sense for the people I was trying to help.  We’re not small businesses that know exactly how much square footage we’ll need to operate for the next 10 years.  Nor are we big businesses that can make long-term bets on real estate supported by years of predictable revenue.  Instead, we bet our lives on dynamic growth businesses.  We have no idea how big or small our world may be in the next ten months, let alone the next ten years.
That’s why we created PivotDesk.  There are too many barriers in the way of great entrepreneurs trying to build awesome businesses – finding space shouldn’t be one of them.  And, there’s a lot more to space than just square footage.  It’s culture.  It’s environment.  Finding and sharing office space shouldn’t be so damned difficult:  How do we get an agreement that’s flexible and comfortable enough for both hosts and guests to focus instead on managing their businesses – not running around chasing checks, figuring out who is supposed to be in the space and who isn’t?  Distractions.  How do we make it so founders don’t have to be distracted by the finances, the documents, and the process?  How do we limit the risks of these relationships?”
