Quick and Dirty Update!

April 24th, 2009 by Myles Weissleder

Can you please drop everything you’re doing right now and eyeball this?  You’ll be glad you did.   Serious.

1)  The Next SF New Tech is on May 6th – First 100 Through The Door Get a Free Drink!
2)   A June Double Header.
3)   July Big Summer Geek Out!
4)   Annual Membership Has Arrived!
5)   Sponsor Love
6)   Miscellany

1)  The Next SF New Tech is on May 6th – First 100 Through The Door Get a Free Drink!

Holy moly.  Like a freight train of tech, here we go again.  On Wednesday, May 6th, come on down to Mighty to see some of the best of the best.  Live demos on tap include: Diddit.com…, HearPlanet,  tmeet.me, Sonar6 and Nileguide.  All great — and fun — tech.  Special bonus: the first 100 people through the door will get a free cocktail courtesy of Diddit.com…!  Woot!  Event info @ 56sfnewtech.eventbrite.com…

2)   A June Double Header.

Come June, we’re going to throw down two great events.  On June 10th, none other than Guy Kawasaki will be dropping in to demo Alltop.  He told me he’s going to have a hard time keeping it to 5 minutes.  Can you help me reel him in?   Also on tap on 6/10 are Chartbeat (super-slick tools to monitor the heartbeat of your site) & Blurb (awesome book self-publishing that kicks iPhoto’s ass) and a few others.  Then just one week later on 6/17, it’s Widgets Up The  Wazoo III!  Yep — widgets are back and Sexywidget.com…’s Lawrence Coburn is going to moderate the evening.  Expect nothing but killer demos, to be announced soon.

3)   July Big Summer Geek Out!

You know we love to party, right? The plan is to have a *huge* party in July.   Tacos, DJ, and more.   If you’d like to sponsor a good ol’ bad-ass Geek Out — let’s talk.  This can only work if we can get enough sponsors.  (Imagine a turn-key party with your name on it for less than a Sushi dinner for your BOD.)  More info coming soon on this one.  Stay tuned.

4)   Annual Membership Has Arrived!

Yes!  Now you don’t have to worry about getting your tickets in time!   With an annual membership to SF New Tech you can just show up and join the fun.  Just like the Old School, baby.  We’ve made it simple to join, and cheap too.  Especially, considering how membership is your golden ticket to any of at least 12 events a year.  Who knows, we may do "members only" events and serve up other benefits in the future, too.   We’re offering membership plans for individuals as well as packages for companies that want to provide easy access for staffers and colleagues and eliminate hassle of those pesky post-event expense reports!  Also, it’s no secret that clients and portfolio companies love being entertained at SF New Tech.    For more information on our Individual and Corporate membership plans, simply visit www.sfnewtech.com…

5)   Sponsor Love

- Big shout out to Sun Startup Essentials.  Tap the wisdom and resources of Sun for your Startup. Simple and free.  (bit.ly/Gotum…)

- Who’s got your back?   Your emerging tech company needs the keen legal counsel. Bullivant Houser Bailey has your back. (bit.ly/EMyev…)

- If you’re not sure about all this social media revolution chatter, get in touch with Brian Solis @ Future-Works.  Brian doesn’t sleep, call him anytime. (bit.ly/QYF3M…)

- What’s about 3 feet tall, brown, has four legs but doesn’t move, and stands around all day getting pecked on?  It’s Mylermedia Global Headquarters … aka my desk! (bit.ly/D2Fib…)

6)   Miscellany

I always hated that word.  Miscellany.  Don’t know why.  It’s creepy.  Anyway …

 - SF New Tech has Forums where you can post stuff and promote events, jobs, resumes, etc @ bit.ly/tALBN…
 -  Ratings and photos and more from our last event @ bit.ly/Hymc6…
 - Sponsor SF New Tech!  It’s a great thing to do!  Email me @ myles @ sfnewtech.com…

 - We’ve been broadcasting "Live from San Francisco!".  Tune in on event nights @ www.sfnewtech.com… – Pre-warning: The stream looks and sounds like shit.  Worse than an elevator security cam.  But tune in, it’s fun!  (Don’t worry! We’re got plans for HD quality footage coming soon!)

 - Follow on Twitter!  SF New Tech: www.twitter.com… …  Me: www.twitter.com…

 - Big Congrats to @Twittfilter & @Adcause for attracting the attention of Bloomberg News after doing demos at the last #sfnewtech!  bit.ly/kbp7k…
 - Venture Out!  Join 300+ leading technology entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and investors at a unique philanthropic event, Venture Out, a half day of high-impact volunteering organized by HandsOn Bay Area.  Participate in Palo Alto from 1 to 4pm on Wednesday, June 3rd (hobaventureoutpa.eventbrite.com…) and/or in San Francisco from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, June 6th (hobaventureoutsf.eventbrite.com…).

  • Real time ratings (post-event) are here.
  • Mobile ratings from the night of the event are here.

The next event is on May 6th… stay tuned!  (Those of you who received the special comp code via SMS during the event can use them now!)

2/11 SF New Tech … and a whole bunch of tasty news!

January 30th, 2009 by Myles Weissleder

The next SF New Tech is right around the corner – February 11th — and we’ve got some exciting news to share with you in 6.5 tasty nuggets.

1) Longer Schmooze Time!
Many folks have asked us to extend the networking portion of the night a little longer.   We heard you loud and clear:  the hour between 6:30 and 7:30 just wasn’t enough time to get your schmooze on.  So, starting at our next event, we’ll now be opening the doors — and the bar! — an hour earlier  for your networking pleasure.   The demos will still start at 7:30 but if you want to slap on your name tag and get busy earlier now you can — beginning at 5:30 pm!  Woohoo!

2) Free Tacos!

Many folks have asked us to provide more food.    For the past year or so we’ve had hundreds sushi rolls offered up in the back room from Mikado Sushi.   Needless to say it doesn’t last long.  It never does.  And, it’s well known fact that no matter how much food is served there’s never enough feed the hungry masses.   This month we’re going to spice things up a bit.     Thanks to BuzzConnect, the famous El Tonayese Taco Truck will serve up 300 FREE tacos from 5:30-7:30 pm on a first come first served basis.  If you want  burritos, quesadillas, or tortas, you’re free to purchase the additional grub on your own.   BIG thanks to BuzzConnect for being our official munchie sponsor for our February event!

2a)  BuzzConnect Shout Out!
Give ‘em a hand — and check ‘em out!  BuzzConnect is the career marketplace for communications and marketing professionals worldwide. BuzzConnect helps qualified communications and marketing experts connect directly with peers, corporate decision-makers and independent recruiters.  Explore Full-time, Part-time, Freelance, Contract and Consulting Opportunities at www.buzzconnect.com… />

3) February is gunna be HOT!
Lots of folks have chimed in to tell us as much as they love all this Web 2.0 stuff — there’s more to tech than Web 2.0.   And we agree.   This month we’re going to take a little excursion and check out Augmented Reality and QR barcode technology.   How cool!

4) Ticket Tweaks
We’ve tweaked the ticket prices a bit.   First mover discounts notwithstanding (see below!), the first 150 "early birds" pay $15.00.  Late birds pay $20.00.   Tickets at the door, day of the event, will also be $20.00 so long as the event isn’t sold out.   If you show up with a pink slip we’ll let you in for $10 — but you must bring it with you!

5) February Demos!
Demos on tap for February 11th include …
